One Series — Three Levels — Continuous Progress
Destination Grammar & Vocabulary is a three-level series covering:
- Destination B1 — Intermediate;
- Destination B2 — Upper-Intermediate;
- Destination C1 & C2 — Advanced.
As learners progress through the levels, the complexity of the language increases, with more advanced grammatical structures, broader vocabulary and more sophisticated language use. This makes Destination suitable both as a dedicated Grammar & Vocabulary course and as a complementary resource for exam preparation.
One of the key features of Destination is its integrated approach to Grammar and Vocabulary.
The Grammar sections provide clear explanations of grammatical rules and examples, followed by carefully graded exercises. The Vocabulary sections focus on topic vocabulary, phrasal verbs, prepositional phrases, word formation, word patterns, phrases and collocations.
This approach is particularly valuable when progressing to higher levels of English. Fluency is not simply about knowing a large number of words. Learners also need to understand how words are used in context, which words naturally occur together, how words change their form and which grammatical structures are appropriate in different situations.
Destination is designed to develop these competencies progressively.
From Grammar Rules to Practical Use
One of the key strengths of Destination is its step-by-step progression from rules to practical application. Learners are first introduced to a grammatical structure, then explore how it is used through examples, and finally consolidate their knowledge through a variety of exercises. This approach helps students move beyond simply recognising a correct grammatical form and develop a better understanding of why a particular structure is appropriate in a specific context.
Vocabulary learning also goes beyond memorising individual words. The series systematically develops learners’ ability to use collocations, phrasal verbs, word patterns and word formation accurately and naturally. At higher levels, this helps learners develop English that is more precise, natural and flexible.
Integrated Exam Practice
Exam preparation is not treated as a separate component of Destination. Relevant exercise types are integrated into the Grammar and Vocabulary practice, allowing learners to become progressively familiar with formats commonly used in international English language examinations.
Systematic Review and Progress Assessment
Review sections give learners regular opportunities to revise previously studied material, while Progress Tests provide a broader way to check their knowledge and monitor progress. According to Macmillan Education’s official information, the Destination series includes 14 Review sections and two Progress Tests.
Destination is designed to give learners a structured system for learning, practising, reviewing and assessing their Grammar and Vocabulary within a single course.
Key features include:
- Grammar Presentations — clear and structured presentation of grammatical rules and examples;
- Carefully Graded Exercises — progressively more challenging activities for developing accurate language use;
- Topic Vocabulary — vocabulary organised around relevant topics and contexts;
- Phrasal Verbs & Prepositional Phrases — practice with frequently used language combinations;
- Collocations & Word Patterns — developing natural and accurate word combinations;
- Word Formation — systematic practice of different word forms and word-building patterns;
- Review Sections — regular revision and consolidation of previously studied material;
- Progress Tests — opportunities to assess knowledge and monitor progress;
- Reference Materials — additional reference and practice material for further study.
Some editions of Destination are available in With Key format, making them particularly convenient for independent study. The B1 With Key edition, for example, also includes seven photocopiable tests. The series also includes vocabulary reference material and a glossary, helping learners better understand the meaning and use of new vocabulary.
Teachers can access additional resources on the official Macmillan Education website, designed to support lesson planning and make it easier to use Destination in the classroom.
The official online resources include:
- Scope & Sequence — an overview of the structure and content of the course;
- Sample Materials — sample pages and activities from the books;
- Grammar & Vocabulary sample units for different levels;
- Information about additional exam and practice materials.
These resources can help teachers plan their courses, assess the suitability of a particular level and become familiar with the structure and methodology of the series before using the books in class.
With Key editions also make checking exercises easier and can provide additional support for students working independently.
